Aserradores

Mujeres Que Mueven began its journey in Aserradores, a small village of approximately 150 families located in Northern Nicaragua. The community struggles in securing necessities like potable water and sanitation. One of the primary challenges for this rural community is the lack of economic opportunities, which has increased since the sociopolitical crisis in April 2018. There are no women cooperatives or large businesses that employ members of the community with the exception of multiple hotels and hostels which employ a handful of community members from Aserradores and the surrounding villages which make up the greater area of Aposentillo. While some tourist businesses are still open, they are operating with a largely diminished staff and as of the onset of the global pandemic in March, many of these businesses are now closed. Mujeres Que Mueven is the only NGO in the area with a focus on work with women . We offer a safe space to learn the practices of self-care, nutrition, and the strength of the sisterhood bond among women. Together we are stronger!

Aserradores
